Hi David.....

I see that we are now getting a lot of SPAM on the new site..... Just wondering if they can get into any of our info. You can tell that I am not an IT type....

Today has been an unusual day for spam with, I think, 14 messages posted. We must be gaining in popularity as these messages came from Russia and Poland.

These messages have been deleted and the accounts banned from further posting.

These people cannot make any changes to the site. At the moment, they can create an account and post a message. Normally, this is what we want to happen but the abuse makes me question this open door policy.

One of the advantages of the upgrade yesterday was the ability to moderate new posts. If I turn this on it means that we can set a threshold below which new posts are checked before they appear on the site. The threshold is set by the number of posts a person has made. This would therefore not affect the regular site members whose number of posts would exceed the threshold but, on the downside, it would require that all the posts for new users would need to be checked.

At present, I am the sole moderator for the site. If some of the senior members would like to act as moderators, we could spread the responsibility and thereby add a degree of control whilst not detracting from the life of the forum.

How would that be?
