Hello forum members,
I have had this photograph for a few years but have struggled to indentify.
I am sure it is earlier than the Boer War period but can anyone offer any information.
My thoughts are a Lancer, Pillbox hat, Cross belt and cords.
Badges and buttons are not clear even at a high resolution.
The back shows the photographer as Pun Lun 56 Queens Rd Central Hongkong.

Any ideas anyone?

Yes, a lancer, have alook at the button an the left just below the belt, a triangle shape? a harp or a V, 5th Royal Irish Lancers?
