Dear all,

I've often wondered how and when these were issued. Does anyone have any information?

Here is an example inscribed by Trooper G. W. Webster 34th (Middlesex) Company Imperial Yeomanry and dated 28th February 1900. He was subsequently wounded at Senekal on 25 May 1900 - the fight is well written up in 'The Story of the 34th Company' by William Corner.

The inscription on the left by Webster states that the New Testament was used at the swearing in of 610 men of the 10th (Lambeth) Battalion London Regiment in September 1916.

Best wishes,

Justin
