Whilst this may not be the first time a postcard of the ILH Monument on Wagon Hill has appeared on ABW forum I could not resist buying this when I came across it being ILH and Wagon Hill B)

A fine example, this must have been taken soon after it was erected, went there many years ago with my dad and brother. It was a lot more overgrown than in this picture.

Brian,

the postcard is addressed to somewhere in the Cape Colony and whilst I cant make out the date stamp, the Cape Colony became the Cape of Good Hope Province in 1910 when the Union was formed.

Iain

Hi Frank,
yes the quality is excellent, you can read all the names.
I'm not really sure how they would have done it as there was no colour photography then; a painting and then Litho printed maybe?

regards, Iain

Hello Iain,
I think they were just photographs, the plates were hand coloured and then you could just print from them, not really a postcard collecter, perhaps Paul or David would know.
Kind regards Frank
