Paul,

I was reading that this monument was designed by Robert Lorimer and sculpted by W B Birnie Rhind in 1904. I have searched the newspapers but cannot find any mention of its unveiling.

It is described as being made of coursed, polished stone with a two-stage plinth and panel reading "IN MEMORIAM" and the Alloa heraldic shield with the motto "IN THE FOREFRONT" to upper. The sculpture is of a kilted soldier, with his hand on his revolver, standing over a wounded colleague.

It was unveiled by the Earl of Mar and Kellie, the Lord Lieutenant of the County on 9th April 1904.

It's official title is the Men of Clackmannan memorial.

Best wishes,

Justin
