Royal Scots Fusiliers' Memorial
Unveiled at Ayr,by Earl Of Eglington,1st November 1902
"Ye babbling winds in silence sweep
Disturb ye not the hero's sleep"

The card was posted from Ayr 15th May 1903
The message reads:-
"Dear Mr.Cowieson,
Many thanks for the picture postcards you so kindly sent me.
As you are a military man I thought this card might interest you.
Did you present arms to the King yesterday?
I hope you were not nervous.
Best regards
R.J.A."

So did David .J.Cowieson present arms to the King on 14th May 1903?
Had a little search for military records on FMP but difficult with just a name.

Paul :)
"From a billow of the rolling veldt we looked back, and black columns were coming up behind us."

That's a great card, Paul.

Here's a picture in its original context.

I'll look to see if it has moved.

The statue was build a year before the postvard was sent, in 1902. It stood in Burns Statue Square and was the work of Thomas Brock. In addition to the Boer War, it commemorates men of the Royal Scots Fusiliers who died in Zululand, Sudan, Burma and India.

The area has changed over the years but the status has not moved:
