I am researching J A Youde who was in the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment Volunteer Service Company. He was a private, number 7379. I believe he is my paternal grandfather John Arthur Youde who was born in 1878 in Southport, Lancashire. I would welcome any help with finding out how to go about researching if the initials J A do stand for John Arthur.

Hi

There is a JA Youde listed for this regiment who was awarded a three bar QSA. It states that he elected for discharge in South Africa rather than return to England.

There is a John A Youde aged 2 on the 1881 census return, living at 17 Eastbourne Road Ormskirk, born in Birkdale, looks like him. Parents were William & Anna.

There is a John Arthur getting married in Preston in 1906, could be him.

Cant see a John Arthur birth for that year. There is an Arthur John born in 1878, but this was Chester.

Trust this helps.

Doug.

Thankyou for your efforts. The J A Youde at 17 Eastbourne Road, Birkdale in Southport (Ormskirk is the registration district) is my paternal grandfather John Arthur Youde. He was born on 5th April 1878 in Southport. Where did you find the 3 bar QSA (means?) award information please?
I have found another John Arthur Youde who was born in 1864 in Hulme, Manchester and who appears to be my grandfather's uncle!
A bit confusing!
