Hi There,
I was delighted to find this site while doing some on-line research on the ABW. I was born in South Africa and at an early age inherited my father's great interest in the war.
I was lucky enough to have visited most of the major battlefields, and some of the lesser known ones, over the many years spent in South Africa.
When I resettled in Canada, my interest continued with the production of a documentary film on Strathcona's Horse, a regiment raised by Lord Strathcona of Canadian Pacific Railroad fame, for service in South Africa.
I look forward to hearing from others who may have lived in or visited South Africa possibly to discuss the sad state of many of the battlefield monuments and graves.

Cheers,

Tony Maxwell

Good Afternoon Tony.....

What part of Canada do you reside in...... I have been a collector of Boer War items for nearly 35 years now and in fact my new GF is a South African so she says that she is the best piece in my collection..... LOL.....

I also have a number of Strathcona items and living here in Calgary have access to their museum and archives.....

Hi Mike

Good to hear from you.

I live fairly close to you, in fact just up the road in Red Deer. Yes I have made good use of the Museums of the Regt. Some time ago now but they were very helpful loaning equipment, uniforms etc for reenactment shots for our documentary. To be fair, the LdSH at Forces base Namao were helpful as well.
You can drop me a line on [email protected] if you wish.

Cheers,
Tony
