My name is Chris. I collect medals and have some Boer war medals. A member proposed that I join this forum to share and to learn. I'm seeing forward to the experience.
I want to submit A.L. Foy and Holderness as Def of Kimberley medals that I know exists.

Do you collect to a theme? Lots of us are medal collectors here. Are you a member of the BMF too?

I don't collect a theme. I'm in the phase of collecting everything as I don't have the luxury to pick and choose. I've heard that it will come later. Apparantly that is how a collection evolves. I pick up now and then something from the Boer war.

No, I don't belong to the BMF, this is my first time I venture into joining, as I normally read and don't have much to say.

Then you specialize on a specific theme......

Then it is back to picking and choosing.......

Welcome! Don't worry about a theme; just search widely on sites and at medal fairs if you are lucky enough to be near some! In reality, buy what you like and can afford. Get to know what a renamed medal looks like. Be aware of research opportunities and that even a "mundane" QSA can have quite a story behind it - I usually would not use the term "mundane" as the recipients were all in SA during the conflict and clasps were got "on duty". Even Bridge Guards in the Karoo. QSAs with battle bars are still rather affordable; especially those gained on the Tugela line. Pairs and groups are also great when you can get some. Themes can come later; I have several (!).
I think you will find this site has an enormous archive and I have found the members are quite friendly. Unlike some sites.
