Hello forum members
I have recently acquired a QSA 67th battery RFA issued to Gnr FE Mansell sold on a Spink auction during 2014; but I can't find him on the nominal roll. bars Def of L'smith, OFS, Transvaal and Laing's Nek.
Is he also perhaps entitled to Talana bar??
Any help will be appreciated. Tkx Evyn

No Talana bar Evyn

You have his complete entitlement as listed other than a SA 1901 clasp which he also received.

Hi Rory
As a novice collector your advise please;
would it be advisable to acquire the 'SA 1901' bar and attach it to the QSA ?
Would the addition affect the future value of the medal for a collector of RFA ?
Your comment
Tkx in advance

There are different schools of thought on this point. My own view is to get a clasp but slide it loosely over the ribbon and not to have it riveted to the other clasps.

Mansell would have worn his medal without it - so would I.

Evyn,

I agree with Rory.

The SA 1901 clasp would have been issued off the Supplementary Roll and more than likely a while after the medal its self was issued. His loose clasp must have sadly got lost over time which is commom. You often find QSA medals with date clasps fitted loosly over the ribbon. I would acquire one but not have it riveted onto the other clasps just slipped over the ribbon as it most likely was at some point in time.

But........

If you are cataloguing your medals with a possible chance of a sale in the future I would make a note that the 01 bar has been added......

Also......

If you have a copy of the supplementary roll include that as well......
