Hello There

Ryan Clarke is my name and I have recently discovered whilst creating our family tree that we have a connection to the Boer war , My Father in laws grandad was a Lieutenant John Michael Obrien , he served with the South African light Horse C Sqaudron , he also is mentioned in special acts of bravery Despatches from General Buller

I would love to gather further information about him and pherhaps copies of service records but am at a loss in where to look and what Archives to search , im really keen to keep this memory of J M Obriens service running thru the family as any one whom serves their country should be remembered
J M Obrein was born in 1872 in Newcastle New South Wales Australia , he went to South Africa in 1896 chasing Gold and from there I believe he entered the Boer war a s a trooper of the SALH and ended up the Rank of Lieutenant

if anyone could help me on this quest it would be greatly appreciated .

Sadly, there are no SAMIF officers papers here, only some of those for their rank and file have survived, the remaining SALH papers are in WO126/130-138.
