I am just tiring to find out about a medal and the person who received the it, Corporal J T Kelly 5035 Yorkshire Regiment. The medal was sent with medals that my G-grandfather son received after he was killed at the Somme. As far as I know we are not related, but can not seem to find any information on him or the medal.

Cpl Kelly served in the 4th Yorkshire Regiment and received the 2 clasps in the subject.

It looks like there are service papers for John Kelly:

KELLY JOHN 1868 — 1901 British Army Service Records 1760-1915 St Marys, Templemoor, Tipperary, Ireland

These are available on line at FindMyPast or from the National Archives.

WO100/178 states the initial T, but, his WO96 Militia papers simply give him as John Kelly and he signs as J Kelly.

Jeff,

The index on FindMyPast does not list his middle name. It is matched on his surname and regimental number (5035). There could be other men with this combination so a match is not guaranteed. That said, he's the only Kelly with this service number who fought in the Boer War so I think these are his service papers.

Does the birth place make sense from what you know?
