I am researching my Gr x3 Uncle, Benjamin Stephen TOMLIN would enlisted on 4th Jan 1901 and was discharged on 13th July 1901 his records show he was entitled the the QSA Medal with clasps for Cape Colony Orange Free State and transvaal. The record does not confirm whether the medal was claimed.

There is confusion because another record IN HIS NAME does say the medal was issued. However the Reg. No. is given as 32346 which is that of another Tpr (i.e. Gilbert HARDY of 89th Com, 9th Batt I.Y.)

Is there any way I can find out if the medal and clasps were correctly issued to Tpr 25949 B S TOMLIN

David,

His QSA with three clasps (CC, OFS & Tr) is listed on roll WO100/264/101. The rolls are usually marked 'Retd' if the QSA could not be issued but there is no such entry so I would summise that he did receive the medal.

What is the source of the other information?

Best wishes
David

This particular gentleman appears to have served in the South African Light Horse as 32346 Trooper, WO100/275 confirms a three clasp medal issued on the 25th of September 1903, it would be wise to look for any surviving papers in WO126/101-104 and WO126/130-138.

My source is Ancestry.com " UK Military campaign Medals 1793 - 1949 B S Tomlin. which produce to separate records, thus the confusion.

it appears original source was Nat Arch. WO 100 241 Rolls
