Hi I am researching information on my grandfather W Sharp 14920 RGA who was wounded at Elands river Poort and received a DCM for his actions. I would love to know what he did to get this and further details of the action.
Can anyone help?

Lord Kitchener's Mentions dated 8 March 1902 includes the following:

Eland's River Poort, Sept. 17, 1901
Royal Garrison Arty - 4th Mountain Battery - Gunner H Sharpe (promoted Bombr.); for gallantry in action.

In the listing for the DCM the name is given as Gunner W Sharpe.

The Wikipedia account of the battle seems reliable and it gives a short bibliography.
