Hi, I have been looking for a site such as this for sometime. The reason being that my grandfather was in the Boer war and WW1.

I have his medals (with campaign bars) and a picture with him wearing them. Also a bead necklace and bid from SA. I was looking at the site for details of my granddad but couldn't find any reference for him. He was Pte Samuel Woodward service no: 5975 Border Regiment. 2 of the campaign bars are for Relief of Ladysmith and Tugola Heights. Hope to find out lots more, Richard:) :cheer:

A bit of a cheek but I am also looking for details of my great uncle's service, also named Woodward. I would really appreciate it if you come across anything related to Orlando Horatio Lund Woodward.

Appreciated, I will reciprocate.

Many thanks

Hi, welcome aboard. I see 2626 Tpr. Orlando Horatio Lund Woodward, British South Africa Police was awarded the QSA with South Africa 1901 & 1902 clasps. He was in the Bechuanaland Protectorate Division and served from 19 July 1901 - 12 December 1902.

Cheers,

Mark

There are a few potential matches in the service papers. Do you have any more information about him?

These are the search results from FMP:

MWoodward.

I had a quick look for Great War service and found a possible match within the section on Army deaths:

The CWGC has more information:

It seems a bit of a stretch but might this be him?

Medal Index Card shows 1914 Star and entry into France being August 1914 with original BEF. He would appear to be a regular so likely had pre WWI service.

Cheers,

Mark
