I am new to this forum and came across it while looking for info on family in the Boer War. My gr.grandfather James Arthur Rumsey came here around 1900 with the Yorkshire Regiment. I am really interested in his wife Cornelia Johanna Landman whom he married in 1909 in Harrismith. I have been told that the family were in the concentration camp there and would like to find out more about it.

Hi There,

I am not to sure if this bit of info will help in any way.

In the PMB Archives there is a Death Notice and Estate File to one Ann Rumsey. The Ref shows that the surviving spouce was a James Arthur Rumsey and the date of death is noted as 1948.

Thanks I did see it and they kindly sent me a page from it to see if it was the correct record. I am waiting for the archives to open up again after renovations and will take a drive up to PMB now that I am in Durban and try and get a copy.

Great, However those renovations have been on going for as long as I care to remember. If you would like I can give you the name of a very efficient lady there who will be able to take a photo of the relevant pages etc. This I am sure would save you weeks of waiting.

That would be great, and perhaps an e-mail address or a way to contact her. As I recall they said that the archive was closed to the public until further notice as the records had been moved.
