Having researched names and details on several WW1 memorials, I am now looking at a Boer War memorial plaque in Holy Trinity, Southport. It's not my area, but questions arose on a family history forum I frequent.
All the names I have been given so far were in 32nd Company, IV, from the Lancashire Hussars contingent. I have tracked them up to a point, thanks to this site and others. Of my 8 names, six had four-figure numbers in the 89** with the rank of private, apart from one Corporal. Two were numbered in the 218** range and are described on this site [QSA list] as 'Trooper'.

Can anyone please explain to a novice how these things were arranged?
