Hi everyone. I'm the historian at the Klerksdorp Museum. For your information, Klerksdorp and its commando was heavily involved in the fighting that took place in the western part of the ZAR and the Northern Cape (i.e. Kimberley). We have a large concentration camp graveyard, a neatly maintained British War Cemetery (accomodating the mortal remains mainly of the Yeomanry soldiers killed at the Battle of Ysterspruit - 24 February 1902 - and a (now sadly not identifiable any more)collection of graves of people who died in the (seperate) African Concentration Camp. If anybody wants photographs or info, or have any of these themselves that they would like to share with our city the Museum would be very glad indeed.

Hi all

I'm including a photograph of the little monument erected in our city's Old Cemetery for Imperial Yeomanry (the Durhams and Northhumberlands in particular)that were killed in action at the Battle of Ysterspruit (also sometimes refered to in literature as "Yzer Spruit")when their convoy was attacked by Delarey's forces. If anybody's interested, I'll provide you with an FTP link where you canaccess photos of the other three sides of the monument. Incidentally, although I haven't gone through all the names in the QSA Medals Roll for the Durhams and Northumberlands on this website, I have already established that there are names that appear on the monument butare not in the QSA lists. Any comments, ladies & gentlemen? Might it be that the grave/monument inscription might be inaccurate?

Hi, a quick look at the roll and the only name I can't seem to find is Bocan. Which names are you looking for? If needed I can send you what I have on the other men. I need to physically search through the roll to see if I can find something similar to Bocan. His number doesn't seem to come up.

Cheers,

Mark

I wonder if Bocan could possibly be Bacon?

Found him. He was 29503 Pte. E Bogan of 14th Coy, 5th Bn. Imp Yeo (most of the others were in 101st Coy). Killed 25-2-1902 at Elandslaagte. He is on the roster so I can confirm there names all appear on QSA roster. PM me if you need copies of the records.

Cheers,

Mark
