Hi,

Jim51 here from down town Mount Isa in Queensland, Australia.
My interest in QSA's to Colonial Units, Town Guards etc has led me to this forum. I have been collecting QSA's and groups containing QSA's for several years now and have found the 'man behind the medal' in many cases most interesting.
My enquiry today is about RRL Acutt, 880 Bethune's MI, Menne's Scts & Colonial Scouts. I purchased the medal thru ebay (still waiting for it to arrive) and was surprised at the interest in it as people kept bidding on it. I have since been informed that he is entitled to a Natal 1906 Medal.
Does any member have any info on this man?

As a long term collector of QSA's welcome..... I am also looking for several different medals to complete groups best of luck with that.... I do not know if you have seen the site British Medal Forum but there is a member there who is keeping track of all the known Natal 1906 medals for the life of me I cannot remember his handle..... Have not finished my first cup of coffee yet.... Maybe he can tell you if the medal has shown up anywhere....

Hi Jim, welcome aboard. There was a Cpl RL Acutt of the Natal Mounted Rifles that got the Natal 1906 Medal. Several Australians who remained in Natal after the Boer War went on to serve in the Natal Light Horse in German South West Africa in 1914-1915 so it might be worth having a look for a WWI service record in the SANDF Archives in Pretoria (The NMR also served in GSWA). After the GSWA campaign some men, including some Australians, of the NLH went to the UK with Col Royston and then joined British Regiments. Other men went on to serve in East Africa in the South African Forces.

There is a roll for the Natal 1906 Medal here but it doesn't contain details of whether the medals is extant.
