Just a thought; BSAP and wounded by a spear in the arm. Could it be that he might have served in the British South Africa Police in [Southern] Rhodesia during the 2nd Matabele War in 1896/7?

Anyone have access to the BSAC medal roll?

I'm just sorry I don't have much info to go on, other than "Constabulary", "Boers" and "spear".
One of my brothers confirms he was mounted (I guess most of them were, though). After the war, on returning to England, he became a horse-dealer.
