Hello all,

Originally from Ireland and now living in New Zealand. I had 2 great grandfathers that served in South Africa.

My father's maternal grandfather (524 Pte H.E. Bearman, C.I.V.) and his paternal grandfather (1216 Q.M. Sergeant Thomas Hogan D.C.M.; 9th Batt KRRC).

I have had an interest in the overall conflict for years, but with the arrival of the latest in the line of Hogans, I have decided that now is the time to try to find out more. Part of the reason I signed up to the forum was to try to ascertain why Thomas was awarded his DCM and I have been given some great advise thus far.

I look forward to reading and learning more.

Pete

Hi Peter
My grandfather, John Patrick Hogan was first generation Australian and served in the Imperial Light Horse in the Boer War. My great grandparents were from Tipperary originally. Wonder if we are related?

Hi Mike,

My family comes from Mallow in North Cork, not too far from Tipperary.

There's probably some familial relation in the past, but I guess we'll never know :)

I'm from Ireland and moved to New Zealand about 4 and a half years ago.
