Hello group!
I'm David Murray from New Brunswick, Canada

I'm trying to find information on John Haliburton Lutes, from Moncton, NB Canada, who served with the Kimberly Light Horse. I have no other information, except from his World War I attestation papers, where is listed as previous military experience "Kimberly Light Horse".

Thanks,

David

Hello David.....

Sorry but he is not listed in New Brunswick Men At War - South African War 1899-1902 by Johnson and O'Leary.....

He must have been British and came to Canada after the war.....

fluggies4,

I have had a look at the Nominal Roll for the KLH during the Boer War and cannot find him. There is only one Lutes listed on the QSA rolls but this is someone else (Gloucester Regiment).

Based on this it seems he did not serve in the Boer War. Perhaps he served afterwards?

Kind regards
David

I guess that's possible. His WW1 attestation papers indicate he was with the KLH for 27 months. Thanks for the reply.

Hi David, welcome aboard. I also had a look and can't find anything on him for the Boer War. I did look at his WWI attestation papers and see that he gives his service in the KLH as 27 months. It really looks like this must have been before (unlikely as he was born in 1878) or after the war.

Best of luck.

Cheers,

Mark

Thanks for the reply. I'll keep looking, maybe in local censuses to see what dates he may have come to Canada, if indeed he did come from Britain before WW1.
