Hello All
I'm trying to restore some medals from ABW and get an understanding of what each one of them mean.
I'm also trying to find some information on a J.A.C. Gericke who faught in the war. After a little but of research, I've come to an understanding that different medals were given to different regiments.
How do you find out what regiment a fighter was in?
There seems to be one medal short which is the main reason to find out what the medal grouping was so that maybe I could find a replacement for the group.
Does anyone know someone that can make up new ribbons?
Does anyone know how to restore the actual medal (The medals have become dirty and one a little corroded)?
I hope someone can assist in anyway.

Hello Effected.....

I am a little confused by your post.....

1. What medals are you looking to restore, do you have the names?? There were 2 campaign medals given by the British and One by the Boers other than gallantry.....

2. There were different Clasps / Bars on the Queen's South Africa Medal which could be different between each regiment......

3. There should be a Regimental Number, Rank, Name and Unit either stamped or engraved on the edge and that will give you the other information.....

4. Ribbons can be purchased from several different locations.....

Can you post some pictures of the medals?????

Korporaal Johannes Abraham Christiaan Gericke served in General Hertzog's Commando.

His Anglo-Boereoorlog Medalje (ABO) would carry his name only on the rim, i.e. no rank, number or regiment.

Thanks so much for the quick replies Brett and Mike.
He was a Boer.
I was requested by a customer to restore them as I am a carpenter (Guitars and carving), he thought I would be able to do this. He asked me just to repair the plaque, polish the medals and sort out the ribbons. I took on the challenge and now it's interested me so much I want to know more about the man and give him some history or as much info as I can. This is purely a favour as he's been good to me.
Following your reply I polished up the blackened medals and can actually see the stamping on the side.
There's an Africa Service Medal - With RLY 997 J. Gerickey
A star with two swords - With RFM J. Gerickey 3rd S.A.M.R
Anglo-Boer Oorlog 1899 . 1902 - With Koorporaal J.A.C. Gericke
George IVS Britt. OMN.REX ET IND: IMP: - With Const J. Gerickey 1 SI M.C.
A Medal with an Angel raising it's arm - With RFM J. Gerickey 3rd S.A.M.R
I tried to attach photos but it wouldn't let the mail go. Will have to try again shortly.

I would appreciate it if you could advise me of someone who can contact to buy the ribbons/make the ribbons from.

Thanks ever so much on the help already. I really am smiling.
