Hi
Yesterday's DNW Sale marked a turning point in my 40 plus years of enjoying medals: I disposed of the major part of the Fort Itala section of my Boer War "Battle Collection".
As I rapidly approach the age of 80, I decided that , before I become a statistic, I would love to personally see the interest shown in a "Big Five" that has never been offered before: a VC, a DSO, a DCM, a KiA and a medal to the opposing side for the same Battle.
The PLUS is obviously that the prices realised were most gratifying.
The MINUS is that, for the first time in more than 30 years my collection is without a VC group. I was fortunate in that, for quite a number of years, I also was the custodian of the groups to Curtis (E Surrey) and Glassock (Q Bty), but they now reside with Lord A. I do not know who bought Bradley : I hope it is a collector and not a museum.
Henk
PS The Fort Itala section in my collection has not been completely depleted: It still contains a DSO, a DCM and a DTD pair to a Boer Commandant killed in the battle

I feel for you Henk but,I am sure questions arise as to what to do with ones collection as the golden years approach.

I would have loved to have bought some of the items but I have a feeling I would be entering old age on my own if I did :)

Regards

Rory

Henk

It must indeed have been difficult for you to part with such special medals, and one can only hope that they go to homes and collections as good as the one that they have left.

Regards
Brett

Good Morning Henk......

I guess I have to echo Brett's comments and hope they go to good homes......

About being a senior, as I tell my family that as soon as you hit 55 your next birthday is 54 then 53, taking off a year not adding....... I am now only 44 and going into my 3rd or is it 4th childhood......

Seriously though it would be hard for me to part with my friends who have given me many hours of pleasure.....

God Speed.......
