Hiya folks

Completing a family tree for a friend and adding photos of relatives.

I have a photo in uniform of Frederick William Beech who we know went off to the Boer war. We know he survived but then he disappears.

Have found two Beeches on here that fit the bill but wondering if there is a way to narrow down the information further?

Have access to ancestry and know my way around but wonder if I am missing a trick?

LindyLou
The uniform looks like Imperial Yeomanry, c.1901-02
I had a quick look on my IY roll under the name Frederick William Beech and I found a "1804 Cpl. Frederick Beech, 21st Coy, 2nd Bn, Imperial Yeomanry". 21st Coy IY was a unit raised in Cheshire and had two contingents. You may observe that your pic was made by a concern in Chester and the lad shown sports two stripes (denoting Corporal) on his Right arm - at least it looks like two stripes to me.
None of the above is entirely conclusive; you might be able to access the attestation papers for 1804 Frederick Beech (ancestry?) and see what address is given and what other particulars may be therein. That might tie in with what you know. The portents look interesting.
Good luck with your quest
IL.

Lindylou - The papers for 1804 Cpl. William Beech are on findmypast. He was born in Tilston by Malpas and was a 25 year old farmer when he enlisted. His father's address is shown as Horton Hall, Malpas. He earned a QSA with clasp Cape Colony with the IY but transferred on 23/8/1900 to the Cape Mounted Rifles so probably earned one or more additional clasps. Does any of this fit?

Regards

David
