Hi everyone :)
I am looking for my 2nd Gt Grandfathers details. He is listed on the 1871 census as living in Trowbridge Barracks as a 19yr old driver in the Royal Artillery, born in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk in 1852. He is listed as Caesar, though we believe he was known as Jeza/Jezzer as a nick name for James, this was possibly lost in translation with his accent when the census was completed. As far as our many searches can find this is the first Otterwell to be in this area of Wiltshire. He married Fanny White in 1872 but is never recorded as living with her, presumably as he was in barracks. By 1891 she was listed as a widow and we can find no further details of James/Caesar/Jez Otterwell! The wedding certificate shows James Otterwell marrying Fanny White in 1872 and all other details regarding age, parents and place of birth are correct. All other ancestry/army sites have proved fruitless as they don't cover the 1st Boer War. I believe my GT GT Grand Father died during the period of the 1st Boer War.
Any info or advice for further searches would be welcomed. :)
