I bought a father & son group 20 years ago. The Father was Pte G Gray. N M Rifles and his QSA had the bars, Tugela Heights, OFS, Relief of Ladysmith, Tvl, Laings Nek. The son was Staff Sgt. H C Gray and he had a WW2 group of 6 plus MID. He served in the SA Engineers. No idea what the MID was for, but probably for good work.
I never realised that Gray Senior was in such a small detachment. I think that I must dig a bit further.

To be quite honest, I think that even today, people just look at that clasp and they just think of Buller's Army and in particular, it's size, I know that I always did, so, at a brief glance, it appears a common medal, you always have to sit down and carefully examine the rolls in the case of the Natal Volunteers and Militia, generally speaking they are scarce, but, some are very rare indeed.
