Thank you for commenting, Frank. Having spent some of my formative years living in Estcourt, I have a special liking for 'Relief of Ladysmith' QSA's, especially those to men of the Mounted Brigade's Composite Regiment. It has been a long time since I last acquired a really good one!
Regards
Brett

Morning Brett

Good to see a Relief bar to BMR, very scarce as the majority were in Ladysmith during the siege. I like the fact that he has the Natal 1906, often these tend to get seperated over time.

I'd describe any Border MR as being very scarce for the period in question here, but, a Relief of Ladysmith is actually very rare indeed, in the particular case of Brett's pair, they are really beyond even that, unique, is perhaps a better description.

Hello Brett,
I take it you knew his original medal was returned after the error in issuing the wrong clasp, interestingly, his other number is clearly shown in WO127.
Regards Frank

I did not know that, Frank. Thank you for telling me and showing the recorded change. Mason's QSA came with a verification done by Winifred Scott in 1991. It includes the statement, "Defence of Ladysmith clasp noted and later deleted."
Coincidentally, I am corresponding with another local collector about BMR QSA's to another two men. I will give details later.

Morning Brett,
Well, I certainly never found them easy to get hold of, unlike, for example, the Natal Carbineers, which turn up here quite often, but, of course, a smaller regiment and one which never really sort the publicity that the latter had and seemed to have often had a craving for.
Kind regards Frank
