I am the unofficial historian of The King's Regiment 1685-2006 and am working on 3 books at present;
1. Historical Record of The King's Regiment 1958-2006. This will be the history of the regiment that was formed by the amalgamation of The King's Regiment (Liverpool) and The Manchester Regiment in 1958 and which was amalgamated into The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment in 2006.
2. Historical Record of The King's Regiment 1945-1948. This will be the final chapter in the history of The King's Regiment (Liverpool) and particularly covers the Korean War.
3. The Regimental List of Officers and of distinguished Kingsmen of The King's Regiment 1685-1958. This was to have been an annex to the Historical Record but has grown into a separate volume with 5682 biographical details so far of all ranks from the Colonel to the young man who got a 'well done' from somebody important.
I know quite a lot about The King's Regiment but by no means everything. So, I am looking for details, gossip and photographs which will help bring Kingsmen back to life. It is much easier to research Officers so, in particular, I want to identify 'distinguished Kingsmen'. For instance those who were awarded the Long Service Medal. I would very much like to hear from anyone who has any medal named to a Sergeant Major or Officer (so that I can confirm that he is included in the Regimental List), or a medal for distinguished, meritorious or long service awarded to any rank of The King's (Liverpool Regiment) (so that I can add them to the List).
I am able to offer to the forum my experience of many years in the Regiment. A Regiment has a corporate memory of about 80 years and I am the son and grandson of Kingsmen. As a Subaltern I was the silver member and learnt much of our history from veterans. As PMC I framed the Regiment's Boer War VCs for the Mess. Later, as Commanding Officer I wrote about our History and Traditions. Now, in retirement I research and frame family medals.
I very much look forward to hearing from you.
