WO100/168 seems to suggest a date of 22nd of August 1900, but, if I were you I would go with the 6th of July 1900 as clearly shown in his papers.

There must be times when someone has travelled a good distance to do research in another library and decides to "borrow" a microfilm reel from there, in order to use it at his leisure in his local library.

It's a shame there isn't a system whereby one library can loan records to another, if the person making the request is prepared to cover the cost.

You might be interested to see the Royal Lancasters' memorial on Spioen Kop, and the mass grave where the men of this regiment were buried.
