Elsewhere on the forum I posted the story of JT Todd of the Natal Transport but this medal I now wish to place under the spotlight is a single (Natal) clasp QSA to Driver P. Smith of the Natal Volunteer Transport Service.

Very little is known about these chaps although I see from the roll page where Smith appears that several of his comrades were awarded the Defence of Ladysmith clasp as well as Transvaal.

The roll also shows that only 89 of these medals were issued making it, I should think, quite scarce.

Does anyone have any info on these chaps or for that matter a medal of their own named to this unit?
