This is one of my lucky finds.
Have been told that it is quite rare, (not sure)
Original box I think.
Any info would be very helpful
Thanks

That is a nice little brooch. They are sometimes seen with other initials as motif; SALH and RPR and doubtless others. There was no "Australian Mounted Brigade" as such to the best of my references.. Maj. General Hutton did promote such a scheme from about 5/1900 (being himself at the head of the Colonial Australian, Canadian and some Imperial M.I. troops in- theatre). There was, of course, the "1st Australian Horse"; a NSW unit which operated until about the end of 1900.
I regret I cannot give and guidance as to the rarity of your lucky find. I have never seen such a brooch - is it gold or plated?
Regards
IL.

I cannot see any markings on it so am supposing that it is plated.

I did find a unit rather optimistically titled "Australian Mounted Infantry Brigade" - actually formed in SA from members of QMI, SAust and WAust Second contingents. It operated in the East Transvaal and returned home about 5/01. Your brooch MIGHT have some association with that unit.
