I would much appreciate any info on my great uncle, born London UK 1882. He travelled to SA, enlisted there, had QSA medals 1902 and was still enlisted in the CMR in 1906. I believe he returned to UK and enlisted for WW1.

Charlott
I had a look on my copy of the CMR QSA medal roll and I found "3802 Pte Carter, V C" entitled to QSA with clasps "Cape Colony" ," South Africa 1901" and South Africa 1902". There are no marginal comments on the roll to provide more info. It is possible to look up CMR records and perhaps find more details; I do not have that access and perhaps one of our members might help?
I regret I cannot supply any more info.
Regards
IL.

Many thanks for this. I did have that info from the ancestry.co.uk web site, but had noticed on anther thread on this web site that there is a record book for individual CMR personnel giving date of enlistment, disciplinary record etc. Perhaps someone can locate the entry for 3802 Carter.

Hello Charlott,

Bad news i am afraid.

I am looking at DD7/65 at the moment and sadly his page is one of many that are missing from the book. The very next Reg number which is 3803 is there but the previous 11 numbers are not.

Sorry about that.

Many thanks anyway. Victor is very much on the edges of my family tree but it is always an annoyance when one fails to make a complete trace of an ancestor!
