Hello, I am new to this site and am interested in researching the history and movements of the above British regiment as my grandfather and his best friend joined up at the same time in Buckingham. Any guidance / pointers much appreciated. Best, Nigel

First, welcome to the forum.
The movements of the many IY Companies are difficult to research. The 57th Coy. had two contingents (140 men in the first and 130 in the second) and served with the 15th Battalion, IY. The movements of either contingent may be worked out by first knowing which contingent your GF served in. That may be found by checking a commercial site or similar. Knowing that, it is possible to follow the unit's general progress by reference to the casualty lists. Every unit on active service is rarely up-to-strength due to sickness, detachments, etc - so it is difficult to say that any particular person was actually in the field with a unit at a particular time unless he was a casualty or otherwise came to official notice. The nature of the guerilla phase meant that the IY was employed widely and usually qualified for one or more of the State Clasps and a Date Clasp or two.
So, you have a bit of digging to do! You might care to tell us of your findings.
Good luck
IL.

Do you have your GF's name? I have a very basic roll for the IY and - you never know!
Regards
IL.
