Battle of Spion Kop 8 years 4 months ago #47401

Hi,
My Grandfather was in the 2nd Battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers at Spion Kop. The site lists the killed and wounded but how many men did the Battalion have at the start of the battle. Does anyone know?

I think it has very clearly been established in your other thread that your grandfather was not in the battle on that wretched kop, but, to answer that particular question, the whole battalion was certainly involved, at that particular point in time, so in the absence of a published nominal roll, I would certainly start by doing a careful head count in WO100/179 of those men with the appropriate combination who had originally been serving with the 11th Brigade in Natal, if I were you.
