Hi everyone,
I'm doing research for a piece I'm writing, set in Pietermaritzburg during the second Boer war. At the moment I'm wanting to know if any English civilians got themselves into trouble as Boer sympathisers, perhaps communicating across the lines or helping Boer soldiers. Were there any cases of civilians being arrested or charged for this?
I'd appreciate any info or pointers to sources.
Thanks.

Possibly not what you are looking for as it is not in Pietermaritzburg itself?

Regards

Rory

Thanks Rory, that's perfect. I just needed to know that it happened. With historical fiction, even though the event and characters might be fictional, its important to me that they could have happened.
Much appreciated.

Clare
There is a short section in the above account of the Umvoti Mounted Rifles about traitors in the regiment's ranks. They were 'Dutch', but they probably had many tacit supporters amongst local Germans, and perhaps even amongst the English.

Brett
