There was certainly an 3636 Private Albert Renshaw who was recalled to the colours on the 12th of November 1899, he had originally joined the Manchester's in 1892 after serving in their Militia, his father was Joseph Renshaw from Salford.

The father of my uncles. Alfred & John Henry was called Henry Renshaw & he died in 1895. It is very strange that there appears to be no trace of my Fathers brothers. Unfortunately he is no longer with us so I can not ask for more information. I know John Henry was born in 1880 so would have been quite young when he enlisted, but from what my Father said when he was alive, that was not unusual for that time.
Can I ask how you know so much about who fought in the Boer War?

Thank you very much for your help anyway.

I really think I have gone as far as I can with this, in addition to those already mentioned there was also a certain 3046 William Henry Renshaw in the Manchester's and a 7687 George Renshaw in the Lancashire Fusiliers.
I can only go with the available evidence based on documented fact and I never read anything into family folk law, which often proves to be incorrect.

Thank you very much for all your help. I have searched on Find My Past & like you can find records for a John Henry & George Renshaw but their birth information does not marry with family information. I have therefore sent for copy birth certificates to ascertain where they were both born which might help identify the correct record.
Once again thank you for your help which is most appreciated.
