Hi

This photograph was found amongst my Wife's uncle's belongings we are fairly sure of the Surname but unsure which person is the family member. If anybody can identify the uniform it may help to identify the person.

It has been suggested that it could be a Police uniform but I am spreading the web far and wide to help solve this mystery. Can anybody suggest where else to search if it is not recognised.

Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome aboard. I speak with no really authority but having grown up in Zambia these types of photographs are very familiar.

Looks reminiscent of government officials on tour with their bearers. Police, District Commissioners, Agricultural Extension Officer type people. And again reminiscent of South Central Africa, the Rhodesia's or Nyasaland perhaps. Is it possible to have a enlargement of the belt plate of the standing European? May be possible to make out the initials BSAP, NRG, NRP or similar.

Great photograph btw. Got to wear a tie when on tour in the bush next time.

Thanks for your interest I have tried to blow up both the Belt buckle and the helmet to see for any markings, nothing on the helmet but the belt buckle appears to have a raised globe type shape but indistinguishable. Have cropped it perhaps you have better eyes or a better system of enlarging picture.

Hi everyone

I have just received news that the uniforms could be those worn by troops at the Siege of Kimberley South Africa 1899-1900, if this is the case the photograph is almost certainly my Wife's grand father Paul Kessler can any of you clever people confirm this please.
