I take it that your reference to the "Jacobstal incident" refers to the action of 25th October, 1900. The only PAOCA man mentioned in the SAFF Casualty list is "404 Driver Rodger, W.A." who was killed at Jacobsdal on 25th October.
On that date, a Boer party infiltrated the town at night, seized some buildings and inflicted some casualties on the garrison. The attack stalled and the Boers espied what was taken to be the scouts of a relief column from Kimberley, they left hurriedly. The garrison suffered 14 killed and 13 wounded. The day after the action, the town was evacuated and immediately occupied by the Boers.
Vol. 5 of the Times History (pages 25-26) makes some pointed comments about the action ("carelessness as well as bravery") . That source IDs 46 Cape Town Highlanders, 8 Police and a 15 Pdr. manned by "some Colonial volunteers".

Hello Linneyl

Many thanks for the prompt reply to my post, Jacobsdal.

I had noted Rodger but am trying to locate a nominal roll of who else was with the detachment of P A O C A. I have come across a newspaper article giving a Cpl Porter in charge of the detachment and have confirmed him on the roll.
My interest, I have a QSA to a Cpl Porter of the unit (only Porter on the roll) would be great to tie him in as the one and same, but to me one newspaper article is not enough?

Christmas is now taking over, research will have to be put aside, thanks for posting

Merry Christmas
