Does anyone know if the 1st Volunteer Battalion, Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment)served in the Boer War? I enquired at the Regimental Museum but they never bothered to answer. I am interested in a GERALD UPTON who joined the Regiment as a 2nd lieutenant on 2 December 1896 and who was promoted to lieutenant on 25 May 1898. I have searched against his name on the Findmypast site but drawn a blank

Bushlyme,

Thank you for your post and welcome to the forum!

As an officer he won't have any soldier's service papers on FMP but you should be able to find out quite a bit about him. That said, I didn't find his name amongst those who served in the Boer War nor was he listed with war service in 1905.

I'll come back after a little more digging.

Regards
David
