Welcome to the site. I have checked for a Distinguished Conduct Medal awarded to "William John Jack" for the Sudan campaign and one "2516 Divisional Staff/Sgt.W.J.Jack" of the Middlesex Regt. was indeed awarded the DCM for Omdurman on 2/9/1898. The notification of the award would have been in The London Gazette of 15/11/1898. I am sure that a basic search on a popular on-line site would give you a good understanding of Omdurman and the Sudan campaign of 1898-99.
Regards
IL..

Ch3rry - His Boer War medal entitlement was the Queen's South Africa Medal with clasps Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, Tugela Heights, Relief of Ladysmith & Laing's Nek and the King's South Africa Medal with clasps South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902. A 2nd Middlesex man with the Relief of Ladysmith clasp would have fought at Spion Kop.

David
