Hi, I'm new to this group and am actively seeking info about RE Ord. Survey in Cape Town area during Boer War. My Great Grandfather Sidney Arthur Wright was with this company later transferred to 19th Co?. I have many panoramic pics of Boer family convoys, trains,Modder River, Calvania to Clanwilliam amongst others and would like some info about whate RE did. I have letters from various officers who wrote to my GGrandfather and a letter from Col Haig recommending his promotion from Lance Corporal to Corporal ( what is a 2nd Corporal?). Any additional info would be gratefully received.:)

You need to get hold of the following two books, from NA Kew or Chatham REs; The detailed history of the railways in the South African War 1899-1902, ed AT Moore or Girouard's History of the railways during the South African War 1899-1902. These are the most detailed accounts of the railways during the war. Walter
