My first visit here so not sure where to start. Worked on my family history for a number of years generally collecting & collating basic info about individuals. Now trying to put more detail to some of them.
Current interest is a William PITTS who is mentioned in a book titled "A foot on three daisies" quoting a newspaper article from July 1st 1902. It says
"...led by William Pitt, who has recently returned from active duty in South Africa." Although the paper says "Pitt" I know it should be Pitts. I have four possible William Pitts who would be right sort of age from that area (Pirton, Herts). If I can discover any information about William Pitts during his time in S.A. I may be able to work out which one he is.

It would be worth searching for his papers in Find My Past because, if they are present, the index will give the place of birth so that you can validate before you pay to see the whole record.
