I am new to this site. I am looking for any information for my family tree about my great uncle John Hawkins, born 1858. The family story is that during the Boer war, he was the soldier who covered up Sir Winston Churchill in a wagon on a train and helped him to escape when he was a war correspondent or similar. He was supposed to have got a medal for this act, but I can't find anything about him. He lived in Denton which is near Manchester, England. His father was Richard Hawkins. Hope someone can help.
