Happened upon a pair of Suffolk Regiment medals locally. 1st Battalion. 2433 W. Grimmer. KSA bars = South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902
QSA bars = Johannesburg, Orange Free State, Cape Colony.)
Have just been to the Suffolk Records Office in Bury St Edmunds (passing Gibraltar Barracks en route!) to access regimental records. Due to a mechanical fault in the archives, many are not currently accessible but there is a copy of an illustrated nominal roll for 1897 (not including my man) created to celebrate QV's Diamond Jubilee. Absolutely new to Anglo Boer War research.

Thank for the welcome. My inexpert stumbling around the (free) Census sites seems to identify him as Walter Grimmer of Bury St Edmunds, born 1884.

Risby,

He served with the 8th Mounted Infantry to gain the Joh clasp with is otherwise unusual for the Suffolks.

I can see the QSA on the roll and the SA01 clasp on the supplementary roll (dated Dec 02) but not the KSA. I have checked the KSA roll (WO100/323) and failed to find him.

Does the KSA look OK, Risby?
