Sorry, another question, I can't make out which country Henry went to before South Africa (see below) - any ideas? many thanks

The country is 'Home'.

Ref previous service, not the first time someone lied on attestation. Unless he served under an alias?

Oh yes, of course, silly me!
Yes the slight fabrication seems possible, unusual maybe anyway to be quite so precise about the number of months with each regiment, and I don't think those details match up with the actual service. But lovely to see he was def in the IY, Voluntary Hants and Canadian Infantry. The Canadian Archive site has all of his service records, all 40 pages of it, fantastic amount of info.
