Hi, I am researching this British soldier who was killed at the Somme in April 1917 when fighting with the Canadian Infantry. The Canadian Archive seems to show that he joined up in Calgary. He lists prior experience as 18 months with Bethune's M I in South Africa. I had a look in the alphabetical list that is on line, but couldn't see his name on it. Is there any other place I might be able to find any of his records? Thanks

Great, thank you for that, I must have forgotten to look in FMP. Looks like I'd have to go to the National Archives to get the full picture.

No need to go to Kew, his IY papers are online at search.findmypast.co.uk/record/browse?id...128%2f0160%2f088_001

I can't find any trace of his service in Bethune's MI - it is not noted on his IY attestation.

He did not earn any medals for the Anglo-Boer War as he arrived after the declaration of peace.

Wonderful! Really strange though about his lack of trace with the Bethune MIs and no mention on his IY records - maybe that was a little bit made up on the form?!..
