Hi looking for records of Charles Robert Jack. He may have travelled to Africa for the Boer war. He died in Africa at Piet Retief 1903. I see there is a record of a Charles jack atestation paperwork in Cape Police but cannot get a copy to check if it is him. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Adrian. I knew he was married had four children they lived in Tasmania when he died in Africa. I am ultimately wanting to find out why he went to Africa and was thinking Boer war then staying on after. Just a guess but the records on here say a Charles Jack in the Cape Police with atestaion papers but I can’t see that. Any assistance in a copy of those papers is what I am hoping to get?

I had a trawl through the Tasmanian section of Murray's "Australian Contingents" for any C.Jack. No entry; nor was there any entry on the OZ-BOER database. It is entirely possible that Charles Robert Jack journeyed to SA on his own account and did a local enlistment there. Quite a few did.
