The only thing that I can suggest is to go to Kew or have a researcher look for his original documents and go from there...... They would have the information that you seek.....

I recall being told that the CIV service papers were bound together in book form and lodged in the Guildhall, London, but were lost in a fire in WW2 bombing.

Many thanks Peter. That would explain the difficulty in tracking down his documents as I cannot found his WW1 records which I now believe were in the same building fire you mention.
