Good morning, I am a new member and I have joined to hopefully learn more about my Great Grandfather Thomas William Turner b.1873. I have a photo of him wearing a cap/hat with CIV written into it which I believe is the City of London imperial Volunteers and a further photo taken during ww1 showing him wear a 'Boer war' ribbon (but no medal?). That is as much as I know, I am keen to find out as much as I can, such as, when he joined, his whereabouts, type of service etc. I do know there is no record of him being part of the HAC.

Being new I have not uploaded the photos as not sure if that is the 'done thing' on here.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks

Teletran

Thanks Mike, do you know if the record can be viewed at Kew as opposed to paying on FMP? I don't understand, for example what the clasps represent etc. Kind regards.

Sorry to bother you again Mike. For the Boer War (2nd) did they have Service records for the CIV? I have found a Thomas William Turner (Unit: City Of London Imperial Volunteers, Rank: Private, Number: 700) along with a 'T Turner' but they document itself does not contain any information that allows me to be certain this is the right chap. The original document of the above does not help either. Any thoughts?

Many thanks.
